Dr. Mary Fry loves to share experiences about children who change their behavior through play therapy. Her professional development began as an elementary school counselor, where she saw children for individual and small group counseling. Later, she saw children and families in her private practice utilizing Child-Centered Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Sandtray, and various directed Cognitive Behavioral techniques. In 2004, Mary developed the curriculum for the first play therapy certificate program at MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Dr. Mary has been recognized by professional organizations by receiving the Kansas Counseling Association Hall of Fame Award (2017), Kansas School Counseling Association Hall of Fame Award (2019), and the Rick Gaskill Luminary Award by the Kansas Play Therapy Association (2019). Her play therapy presentations include, among others, the Association for Play Therapy (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019) and Tumaini Counseling Center, Nairobi, Kenya (2015). Dr. Mary earned the title Professor Emeritus from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2019. Her desire is to keep spreading the word that “play therapy changes lives.”
